DESK REPORT: US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced the establishment of a “Super Intelligence Force” aimed at coordinating federal policy and ensuring American dominance in advanced technology.
The newly formed task force will be chaired by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, positioning him as the administration’s top official overseeing artificial intelligence policy. Joining Clayton as vice chairs are Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Andrew Ferguson, Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor.
Writing on social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated that the body is tasked with coordinating federal efforts to ensure the United States “continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence,” describing the shift as a technological transition “bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet.”
According to its charter, the panel has been given 120 days to produce a comprehensive report outlining both the risks and national security opportunities associated with the technology. The mandate explicitly directs the task force to develop frameworks to address SI-enabled threats while actively preventing “overregulation and regulatory capture that would stifle innovation and competition.”
Highlighting the geopolitical stakes, Clayton told The Wall Street Journal that maintaining a competitive edge over foreign rivals, particularly China, remains the chief priority, noting that “one of the biggest risks is not being first.”
The launch of the initiative follows a recent executive order signed by Trump directing federal agencies to rebrand “artificial intelligence” as “super intelligence,” a terminology shift he first championed during an address to the UN General Assembly last month.
