American confectionery giant The Hershey Company has unveiled plans to deeply integrate artificial intelligence and automation across its entire end-to-end supply chain, transitioning from high-level digital planning to automated daily decision-making.
Outlined during the company’s recent Investor Day, the strategy encompasses AI adoption across ingredient sourcing analytics, plant automation, digital operational planning, and custom fulfillment. The initiative aims to build a faster, more resilient supply chain capable of responding dynamically to volatile ingredient costs and shifting market demand.
“The strategy is clear. The team is ready. The next chapter of growth and leading performance starts now,” said Kirk Tanner, Chief Executive Officer of Hershey, framing the technological shift around operational execution and sustainable long-term growth.
Under the new operational model, Hershey plans to incorporate AI-enabled tools to link sourcing and distribution more closely. The digital systems are designed to optimize inventory levels, mitigate risk associated with agricultural commodity fluctuations—such as cocoa and sugar—and improve speed to market through automated fulfillment systems.
The enterprise-wide rollout extends into factory floors, where increased automation and AI tools will be embedded directly into production execution and workforce coordination. The move signals a broader shift across the physical goods sector, as companies transition from narrow AI pilot projects toward full integration into core manufacturing and logistics systems.
